Christmas cards before independence
With the spread of literacy, the people of Finland started to send more and more postcards to eachother, this also led to the birth of the Finnish Christmas card tradition.
In Lauri's collection we find two cards that we can with certainty date to before the Independence of Finland. The first one we can date because it is written on the card, while the otherone has a stamp of the Russian period.
This card from 1906 combines several Christmas themes. It contains the Angel, a Christmas tree, toys and a wintery backdrop.
A simple card when looked at as a picture, however the Christmas tree is printed in relief and the pinecones are gilded.
